A Mighty Hand

A Mighty Hand

A Mighty Hand

A mighty hand that stretches out
To gently release the bird,
Wings trembling in expectation.
An open and generous gesture
From a carpenter’s strong hand.
A perfect dove emerging from His tender grasp,
Guided carefully on its path
Invested with such love
Directed towards the needs of the world
Offered as helper and spirit of peace
In such a beautiful and fragile form.
To be looked for, searched for
Taken in and cherished
A soft foil to the harsh hatreds of the world
A purity and reassurance against evil
Sent to us from that mighty hand
Giving us courage and hope
A glimpse of heaven
A connection to pure joy
Refreshment for our spiritual lives
Ready to be drawn home
To do well and to return
Loving and loved.
